Restoring the BLM Street Mural

The “Black Lives Matter” message has returned to Richmond Avenue!

City workers stenciled the lettering onto the avenue on Thursday in an area between Schulyer and Wall streets.

I believe the mural serves as a reminder that we will continue to fight for the respect and dignity that the Black Lives Matter movement is working to instill in our national psyche.

Last year, a larger version of the Black Lives Matter lettering was painted on Richmond Terrace in the wake of the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. But traffic and weather took its toll and by the end of winter this year it had faded to the point of nearly disappearing.

I repeatedly called for the restoration of this mural and now it has happened.
