Discussing Community Relations with NYPD Chief of Department Harrison

I joined NYPD Chief of Department Rodney Harrison on Wednesday at the Albanian Islamic Cultural Center for a discussion about community relations and police recruitment.

Chief Harrison is a proponent of neighborhood policing, which I believe is a key ingredient to any strategy designed to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the community. Residents who get to know the officers who patrol their neighborhood and who respond to their calls for help, are residents who will support those officers and the department.

NYPD recruitment officers said during the meeting that they have been actively recruiting on Staten Island on a daily basis. They’ve been informing people about various job opportunities in the department, such as 911 operators, traffic agents and school safety.
