Back to the Classrooms!

What an exciting week! The school year has begun and students are actually back in the classrooms -- wearing masks and sitting at desks three feet apart.

All public school students returned for in-person instruction for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic shut down schools in March 2020.

I visited Intermediate School 61 and had the opportunity to see how happy the students are to actually be back in school. While there, I met the school's new principal, Mr. Kuzaliwa (Kojo) Campbell, who spoke to me about his approach to school administration and some of his plans for the school.

Principal Campbell began his career as an educator in Brooklyn in 2005. He was a founder of Van Siclen Community Middle School 654K and was active in planning, writing, and implementing the school's design process. When the school opened in 2013, he became its assistant principal.
