To better connect Staten Island property owners, landlords and tenants with city housing resources, Council Member Debi Rose will host a resource fair Wednesday, March 27, 6:30-8 pm, at the Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor, 1000 Richmond Terrace. (This event was previously scheduled in January and postponed because of weather)
The event will include one-on-one information about eviction protection, property tax exemptions, home repair/improvement loans, housing discrimination rules, foreclosure prevention, clearing housing code violations, and much more.
“In light of all the new development here on the North Shore, it is important to me that residents with housing questions and concerns have an opportunity to connect one-on-one with city agencies,” said Councilwoman Debi Rose. “In many of my conversations with constituents, I find that they are not aware of the many resources available to them. While many of these resources can be accessed online, too often there is no substitute for a one-one-one conversation with an expert who can speak to an individual situation. I hope all tenants, landlords and property owners in the district will come out to the Staten Island Museum and learn about the resources available to them.”
“HPD provides a wide range of resources to help tenants and owners with their housing needs,” said HPD Executive Deputy Commissioner Eva Trimble. “As we continue to expand our outreach efforts throughout the city, we are grateful to Councilmember Rose and all our local elected officials and community leaders for their partnership in supporting people where they are, in their communities, to ensure more New Yorkers have access to safe, quality, affordable homes.”
In addition to the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which will be co-hosting the event, additional city agencies will be present to answer questions, including the Departments of Sanitation, Environmental Protection and Finance, and the New York City Commission on Human Rights. The Center for the City of New York, Neighborhood Housing Services of Staten Island, Staten Island Legal Services and Northfield LDC will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information about resources they can offer.
