Community Fun Fair, Saturday, Oct. 13 at Tappen Park

Art, culture and community will be on display, with children’s activities, performances and resources

WHO: Councilwoman Debi Rose

WHAT: Community Fun Fair

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 13, 11 am to 3 pm

WHERE: Historic Tappen Park, Stapleton

“This year’s fair will showcase the art, culture and community of the North Shore, while bringing government and nonprofit resources to the people,” said Councilwoman Rose. “Children can climb high above the park on the NYPD rock wall, see animals up close from the Staten Island Zoo, and explore their creativity in Staten Island MakerSpace’s Steam Wagon. Adults can connect one-on-one with the many organizations and government agencies who have resources to share. And all members of the family can enjoy the entertainment on what I expect to be a beautiful fall afternoon in one of our most historic parks in the vibrant neighborhood of Stapleton. Bring your pets, too! As we get closer to Halloween, I encourage Staten Islanders to bring their ‘best-dressed pet’ in their favorite costume or fall outfit for our pet parade.”

The event will include

  • Free bike helmets for all who sign up by 2:30 pm, and an opportunity try our new bike share program

  • DJ and live performances from local artists

  • Bounce house and face painting

  • Animals from the Staten Island Zoo

  • NYPD’s rock wall

  • Local food vendors

  • Pet costume parade at 2:30 pm

Performers at the event will include the St. Philip’s Heat, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, Karyn's Little Angels, the choir of First Central Baptist Church, Staten Island Philharmonic and more, as well as spoken-word artist Starda. Maker Park Radio will broadcast the event live. And mobile units will offer free legal advice, no-cost mammograms and more.

The Community Fair is being held in conjunction with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Weekend Walk. Bay Street between Water Street and Vanderbilt Avenue will be “closed to traffic and open for fun,” including musical performances, games and a Brooklyn vs. Staten Island stickball game.
