I joined Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver in Brooklyn this morning to announce that Stapleton Playground will be among dozens of parks to receive funding for an extensive overhaul in the next round of the mayor's Community Parks Initiative! This investment in green space and innovative equipment at Stapleton Playground is an investment in the health and well-being of our families. All of our young children, regardless of their neighborhood, deserve safe places to run, play and enjoy all that childhood has to offer.
Four parks in my district, DeMatti, Grandview, Levy and McDonald, received funding in the first round of this initiative. We held visioning sessions in the spring, and we are now moving to the design phase for capital improvements. The second phase of this initiative will also include funds to make repairs to Faber Park, Liotti Ikefugi Playground, Lt. Lia Park, Markham Playrgound and Luis Lopez Park.
