Councilwoman asking for donations of school supplies, backpacks for children in need

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- With the first day of school just weeks away, here's a chance to help young students in need.

As she does every year at this time, Councilwoman Debi Rose (D-North Shore) is asking Staten Islanders for donations of school supplies and backpacks for schoolchildren in need.

"No child should be without the tools they need to learn," she said.

"Staten Islanders have been very generous over the years, ensuring that hundreds of children start the school year off with a new backpack stocked with the supplies they need for a successful year in the classroom."

Ms. Rose's staff will accept donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Aug. 29, at her sixth-floor office at 130 Stuyvesant Pl., St. George. Donors are asked to call 718-556-7370 first before dropping off items.
