Staten Island delegation urges Commissioner Bratton to keep NYPD's Staten Island Task Force on borough

June 20, 2014

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- City Council Members Vincent Ignizio, Debi Rose and Steven Matteo are asking Police Commissioner William Bratton to argue against dismantling the Staten Island Task Force in light of the borough's heroin epidemic and spike in crime.

The Island politicians sent a letter to Bratton on Friday after reading about the proposed change in an Advance article.

Multiple NYPD sources told the Advance that the department is considering  consolidating all of its Task Force units -- one exists in each of the city's eight "patrol borough" commands -- into just a few large units.
