The tradition continues: Borough Hall announces free summer concert series, Back to the Beach celebr
It's a decades-old summer tradition that's been tweaked.
The Oddo administration announced Thursday that Borough Hall's annual summer concert series -- and Back to the Beach celebration -- will continue, beginning in July, despite some whispers to the contrary.
The first "Sunset Concert" is slated for July 10. The series and will continue every Thursday though Sept. 4 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., for a total of nine concerts in parks around the borough.
The "Back to the Beach" celebration is set for a single weekend, July 12-13, on the Midland Beach Promenade from noon to 8 p.m., in conjunction with Staten Island-based non-profit The Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund.
Council members Debi Rose (D-North Shore), Steven Matteo (R-Mid-Island) and Vincent Ignizio (R-South Shore) each kicked in $5,000 in discretionary funding to help make the celebrations possible. There will be three concerts in each Council district.
